Saturday night we tried to set up and have a sound check which failed. We didn’t have the sound equipment or the correct power to run the sound board we carried 10,000 miles. We arrived at the boarding school in Garut at 7:00 am Friday morning. We were joined by over 700 students taking the peace promise from the Peace Generation curriculum and another boarding school and several state representatives celebrating the holy day and the peace curriculum. We were welcomed with open arms. We were humbled by the kindness and graciousness of everyone. To that we say “Teri ma kasih”. Now some details…
The visiting school opened the assembly with a more traditional set of music (we were super pumped about the percussion and the recorder, think traditional meets Arcade Fire). A graduate of the peace generation program shared a little with the students and administration about the importance of why we (north of here) were there. A young girl gave a testimony basically outlining the 12 principles of Peace Gen and then the students that had finished. 200 boys and girls from the school made the peace promise. After a super quick sound check (sorry Rob) we played 4 tunes and then the schools local band The Ma ‘had played a set. It was crazy fun.
Later that day we did a Q and A with some students that won a school contest. Eric translated everything for us and we had a blast with all the students. Thank you to everyone in Garut that made our day amazing.
We stayed in amazing little huts at Mul ih Kadesa among the rice patties and the water buffalos. We are all tired but amazed at all the connections that are happening.
Tomorrow afternoon we are going to hand out flyers for the Rock the Peace concert on the 24th with a bunch of kids in Bandung, then we are playing at Prefere 72 Cafe. More updates tomorrow, Good night, rather good morning for now. -Jeff
